Nature Journaling (Trees)
April 18 @ 12:00 am
Celebrate Arbor Day together by observing and documenting the beauty and science of the trees around us. In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of watercolor nature journaling: how to notice closely, gather observations and curiosities, and playfully capture them through paper and color. We’ll explore how to document details such as metadata, questions, diagrams, and measurements, and how to translate these observations into a phenology wheel, a circular chart that tracks seasonal change, including the life cycles of trees. The class will begin at tables with guided instruction, followed by an optional tree walk and outdoor sketching session. During the walk, you’ll experience music created from live trees using technology that translates plant biodata into sound, offering a new way to connect with the living landscape.
All nature journaling workshops are for participants ages 18 and older. No previous art experience is required-beginners and experienced artists alike are welcome. Each class is limited to 12 participants, so early registration is encouraged to reserve your space. If you’re unable to attend, please cancel your reservation so others may join. All materials will be provided, and you’ll leave with tools to continue your journaling practice. Please come ready to participate, your presence helps shape the shared experience. Classes may be taken individually or as a series. Registration and waiver are available online. For accommodation requests, please contact the Mariposa County Arts Council at least five days in advance.
